ABOUT US

To the Hilt is a short, dramatic film about a knight who survives war, but doesn’t know how to live without it.

Trained for violence and shaped entirely by battle, he returns home expecting peace. Instead, he finds himself disconnected, restless, and unable to function outside the only life he’s ever known. War gave him purpose. Without it, he doesn’t know who he is. Though set in a medieval world, To the Hilt explores a timeless struggle: what happens when the skills that kept you alive no longer fit the life you’re asked to live.

Our Story

To the Hilt was inspired by a simple question: what happened when warriors of the past returned home after war? History is filled with stories of battle, but far fewer explore the moment after, the return. While modern audiences have a growing understanding of PTSD and the long-term effects of war, the struggle of coming home is nothing new. The human cost has always existed, even when the language to describe it did not.

Our connection to medieval-trained performers has led us to explore this question through a medieval lens. What would it have been like for a knight shaped by violence, discipline, and duty to return to ordinary life after war?

Though set in the past, To the Hilt is grounded in a timeless human reality. The challenges of reintegration, identity, and belonging transcend armor and battlefield. This film aims to offer a fresh perspective while remaining honest and emotionally truthful.

Our cinematographer, Stephan Farina, is a military veteran who has personally experienced the difficulty of returning home after time away, relearning daily life, reconnecting with family, and adjusting to what “normal” is supposed to mean. That experience directly informs the way this story is told.

Our filmmaking team has completed over a dozen projects in a short career and brings the experience necessary to tell this story with care and intention. We believe interest in medieval and Renaissance-era storytelling is growing, and To the Hiltis an opportunity to engage that community while inspiring a new generation of grounded, era-driven content.
